Navarra
Navarra is the much underated cousin to Rioja. Neighbouring to the northeast of Rioja the region has 5 districts (Baja Montana, Ribera Alta, Ribera Baja, Tierra Estella and Valdizarbe). The region is dominated by the Garnache grape variety for red wine production. A small amount of white wine is produced from the Viura (also known as Macabeo) grape variety. International grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay have been encouraged in recent years.
