Excellent varietal characteristics - soft, smooth plummy fruit with some good stalky tannin on the finish.

South West
With the Pyrenees to the South, Bordeaux to the north and the Languedoc vineyards to the east, the fourteen major appellations in this corner of France produce individual and distinct regional wines from an array of local grape varieties.
This is a gastronomic region that takes rightful pride in its wines. The region includes the valleys of the Lot, Garonne, Tarn and the Gers, where a lot of Vin de Pays wines are made. From the dessert wines of Monbazillac, the Bordeaux-style wines of Bergerac and the Bordeaux satellites such as Duras to the "black wines" of Cahors and the ancient, aromatic Jurancon of the Pyrenean foothills, all have their followers. And then there’s Madiran. This small appellation has risen phoenix-like from near-extinction; forty years ago there were less than a dozen acres under vine, now 2,000 acres produce arguably the finest red wine in the South West.
